Punning
The Forsythia is blooming now
for-sigh-thee-ahI was corrected by one who knew
I persisted in calling it for-sith-ee-ah
before I was schooled
It was named after Mrs For-sigh-th
She told me, and fortunately
I haven’t forgot
But what is that saying?
A rose by any other name
And then we looked at the mountains
across on the mainland
I was ashamed, I didn’t know their names
But I was relieved she didn’t know them either
They should have signs on them I told her
With big letters like the Hollywood sign
And she laughed, which was a good sign.
challenge: to write a poem that uses alliteration and punning. See if you can’t work in references to at least one word you have trouble spelling, and one that you’ve never quite been able to perfectly remember the meaning of.
I sort of veered off on this prompt, oh well
I sort of veered off on this prompt, oh well
And I'm laughing now. Good one!
