Pink Moon
It was late, the full moon was high aloft
And it wasn’t pinknot made of green cheese either
And what about the man in the moon?
Was he enjoying his job
keeping the lights on?
Suddenly, as if on cue
She felt like her arms grew
And her back bent
And she caught the scent of something tasty
What could it be?
There was a Greek restaurant down the street
Maybe go have something to eat
Walking at night felt so free
She forgot it was past three
The park was deserted and quiet
Not a soul around.
Why did she suddenly feel like howling?
A funny story to tell her friends
The night was so peaceful
A cool breeze, but not freezing
No reason to hurry
Ah-hoo,
Ah-hoo
Ah-hoo,
Ah-hoo
Challenge: try writing a poem making reference to one or more myths, legends, or other well-known stories, that features wordplay (including rhyme), mixes formal and informal language, and contains multiple sections that play with a theme. Try also to incorporate at least one abstract concept – for example, desire or sorrow or pride or whimsy. In addition structure the poem like a symphony. It’s four sections, like symphonic movements using Wallace Steven’s poem “Peter Quince at the Clavier” as an inspiration.
