imagining a canticle, in a cathedral
Beautiful dreamer

A Swallow sings the Sun in flight 
La-la, la-la-la-la-la
A song for you 

The road is long 
with many a winding turn
Beautiful dreamer

our house is a very very fine house
parsley sage rosemary and thyme
A song for you

Frail deeds and changing fortune 
have had their day
Beautiful dreamer

And in dreams 
The Swallow sings the Sun in flight
Beautiful dreamer
A song for you



Challenge: write a loose villanelle that uses song lyrics as its repeating lines (loose because it doesn’t rhyme), to write a poem that incorporates song lyrics – ideally, incorporating them as opposing phrases or refrains.

*This feels pretty rough, and missing a stanza. Fixed it!
